Careers

S.A.F.E.
The Self-defense & Familiarization Exchange (S.A.F.E.) is a program designed to increase public awareness about crime prevention and to increase the feasibility of self-defense training through familiarization with its many options.
During the course, participants are taught how to keep themselves safe in a variety of circumstances that may reduce their risk of exposure to violence, with a keen focus on safety tactics for women.  Participants are also taught basic hand and knee strikes.
The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office has three certified instructors that can teach this class.   If you are interested in taking this class please contact Chief Deputy Ryan Needham at ryan.needham@montgomeryco.net  .

NRA Basic Pistol / Home Defense Course:
The NRA Basic Pistol course is designed to teach the basic knowledge, skills and attitude for owning and using a pistol safely.  In addition, the Home Defense course, instructs responsible handgun owners the safest handling procedures and proper storage of guns in the home.
During the course, participants are taught correct handling techniques as well as the differences in ammunition. Participants will be able to handle and familiarize themselves with many styles of handguns and are given the opportunity to shoot a qualification course.  Furthermore, an attorney will address the class about essential legal issues involving firearms and home defense.
The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office has two certified NRA instructors that teach this class.  If you are interested in taking this class please contact Chief Deputy Ryan Needham at ryan.needham@montgomeryco.net .

Most Wanted
The “Most Wanted” program was implemented by Sheriff Mark Casteel and is regulated by the Jail Operations Sergeant, Gia Smith. With the assistance of our local newspapers, we produce and publish a monthly list of our top ten most wanted suspects with photographs and offenses. Since its beginning, we have had a successful return of captured suspects. With the help of concerned citizens, the length of time from a warrant being issued to arrest has been shortened dramatically.
